Colne Fact File
Originally Colne was a Roman settlement known as 'Colunio'. On the outskirts of the town at Tum Hill there are remains of a Roman fort.
Colne prospered from the cotton industry during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and also from the construction of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.
The town plays host to an annual music festival every August.
